This is the SISGA
Mountains surrounding the Sisga dam range between 2,700 and 3,200 meters above sea level. The Dam is located in the municipality of Choconta, department of Cundinamarca, 34 miles (55 kilometers) from Bogotá, capital of Colombia. The 16,2 miles (26 kilometers) cycle route starts at the Sisga bridge and concludes at a restaurant with a beautiful view, where the van will await us to return to Bogotá.

During some seasons, water sports such as sailing, motor sports, fishing and diving, are practiced in the Sisga Dam; from its base, the dam reaches 52 meters height, which allows visitors to dive.
The weather is typical of the Colombian Andes, about 59°F (15°C), so there is no need to wear a jacket.
Vegetation is planted forests and meadows for grazing. During the tour we will see cypress pine, patula pine and trees of the Andean forest. We will also find “siete cueros”, alders, mosses and “frailejon”. The frailejon is typical of the Paramo (Andean moor).
The Sisga Dam is not natural, as it is believed. It was a three-year project that was delivered in 1951. It was built to prevent flooding in the Savanna and to store water during the rainy season in order to supply Bogotá during droughts.
How is the route?
The bicycle route begins at the bridge of Sisga, where you will be able to see the Dam’s magnitude. After a small talk, required equipment will be delivered to each person.
In this location, altimetry is 2,690 MASL. The maximum point we will reach, travelling around the Dam, is 2,815 MASL.
During the initial 1,86 miles (3 kilometers), we will ascend to 2,764 meters and keep on pedaling in relatively smooth small hill climbs. At mile 9,3 (kilometer 15) we will ascend (Sisga maximum high level) 1,6 miles (2,5 kilometers) where we will climb from 2,710 to 2,815MASL. we will have a little rest at this site before going forward.
The Dam’s exit is located at mile 13,4 (kilometer 21,5), where there is an elevation (Ascent in Macheta) of 1,1 miles (1,8 kilometers) from 2.700 to 2.765MASL, paved road.
Out of the rural area bordering the Dam, there are 2,5 miles (4 kilometers) of a paved road in perfect condition, which will lead us to the final destination, a restaurant with a beautiful view where the van awaits us for the return to return to Bogotá.
Altimetry is relative to the route; it starts at 2,690MASL. and its maximum point is 2,815MASL.
In the first 1,9 miles (3 kilometers) we will ascend to 2,764MASL, which are the entrance to the Dam; then, we continue with relatively smooth small hill climbs until miles 9,3 (kilometer 15), where we will ascend 1,6 miles (2,5 kilometers) (Sisga highest point), from 2,710 to 2,815MASL. An elevation of 116 meters.
At mile 13,4 (kilometer 21,5) we will leave the dam and ascend 1.1 (1,8 kilometers) by paved road, (Ascent Macheta) from 2,700 to 2,765 MASL, which is a 65 meters elevation. We will finish the route by pedaling another 2,5 miles (4 kilometers) by paved road towards the starting point.
